downloaded both files twice. can't get them to open. tells me there is a fatal error. not sure what's up. I get stuff from here all the time with no problems.

Don't know what to say: just downloaded both parts and extract them.
All went OK. Try not to extract in a folder too nidificate in your PC.
For example try directly on C:\
